LAU Wing Mun Ruth obtained her bachelor degree in Geography, Chinese Art and Archaeology from the University of Hong Kong in 1970. Subsequently she continued her study at the HKU and was awarded the Diploma in Education in 1971. She taught at the government schools of Hotung Technical School for Girls and the Belilios Public School until she joined the Special Education Section of the Education Department in 1978. She then underwent professional training as an educational psychologist. In 1982 she obtained her MSoc Science degree in Educational Psychology. Ruth continued to work in the Special Education Section as an Educational Psychologist and was the officer in charge of the Psychological Services until she was transferred to set up the new Student Discipline Section. In 1998, Ruth was transferred to the Schools Divison as Principal Education Officer in charge of school administration in the New Territories. At the turn of 2000, there was the amalgamation of the Education Department and the Bureau when she was transferred to head the Regional Education office of Kowloon.
Throughout her career in education, Ruth dealt with various aspects of work in education. She started the integrated Kindergarten programme, set up the Fung Hon Chu Gifted Education Centre and the Student Discipline Section. It was when she was head of the Regional offices in the New Territories that she sat on the school board of the Li Po Chuen United World College and later in 2014 served as supervisor of the College until now. Ruth retired from the Education Bureau in 2006. Since then she devoted her time pursuing her interests in art and painting, in the volunteer and charity work of the Gifted Education Foundation, the community outreach of the Helena May and the conservation work of the museum.
